I have a large spreadsheet in excel.

For each row, i want to create a cell that contains key from other cells in the row. For example, i want to include the first cell characters from the cell in coumn two, and the last two characters from cell in column four.

Is there a formula to achieve this??

Thanks in advance for any help.

I didn't understand the bit in bold. How many characters?

    =left(A2,n)&right(A4,2)

where n is the required number of characters.

    =MID(A2,2,1)&MID(A2,4,2)

    Explanation:
MID(A2,2,1) : go to A2, start at the second character, copy one character (i.e. just the second)

MID(A2,4,2) : go to A2, start at the fourth character, copy 2 characters (i.e. the fourth and fifth)

& : bung the two strings together into 1

so if A2 contains keithdc that'll return eth

Thanks zenmaster, I know how scary complicated lots of Excel can look if it's a function you've not seen before.
