Dumbing Down of National Trust

Well, yes, she has a car (practically a necessity as she's in rural Norfolk !). But if you are comparing days out to an NT property and days out in general, then more often than not the car will be required for the latter too. And even if you stuck to your {insert local urban area here}, you'd still probably be stumping up for public transport fares ...0

You have to be kidding. Family membership £104, £65 if you're a single parent. Then free entry to gods knows how many places up and down the country. Christ on a bike, you can easily spend that on a single day out if you're two adults and a couple of kids !
Little sister loves it. Single parent (now) with 3 pre teen kids, it's the bargain of the year for her.
Not everyone has £104 to lay out. A visit for a family of four without membership is about £ 250 -

Does the price make it elitist?
A trip to the cinema for a family of four is likely to cost about £25. Even more if they want snacks and pizza afterwards.
The TV licence is more than £104 per year.
Are going to the cinema, eating at Pizza Hut and watching TV elitist things?0 -

Duh. No it's not the price that makes it elitist.0 -

There are umpteen of these huge houses, with thousands of artefacts.
I'm not sure the NT should be supporting so many of them. They need to be very choosy and support those which are rare.
So many properties were 'off-loaded' to avoid what were then called 'death taxes', anyway.
And they particularly shouldn't be rebuilding them when they burn down, making the whole experience totally bogus.0 -

So what does ? I don't think appreciating what you are seeing is class dependent, is it ? Or do they turn the hoi poloi away at the gates ?;)Duh. No it's not the price that makes it elitist.
I know, well remember those days as a kid. But just because some can't run to it in one go doesn't make it damn good value for most people. Not everyone has £104 to lay out. A visit for a family of four without membership is about £ 250
