Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Hire a car....... Definitely, without a doubt.

But yes it is a long way to go for 5 days. Why such a short trip?

5 days would be too short for me too. 3 weeks is about right. If i was looking for a 5 day trip, i'd be looking to stay within Europe.

I wouldn't want to travel that distance for less than 2 weeks. Disney alone has 4 theme parks and 2 water parks. Universal has 2 parks. then you have Discovery Cove, SeaWorld, Legoland and numerous other attractions.

For a 5yo, Disney is a must. But you need to allow plenty of time as the parks are vast and little legs get tired very quickly.

I second the recommendation to join the Dibb forums.

If you're splitting your trip up I'd recommend heading down to the Florida Keys. About a 4 hour drive - easy drive too - from Orlando, and the change of pace is amazing after the sensory overload of the theme parks. There are loads of islands, ranging from sleepy little outposts to millionaires playgrounds. I'd recommend Sanibel and its little sister Captiva, which is a bit of everything.

There is no way you are getting from Orlando down to Key West in 4 hours. Its 388 miles so looking at 6 1/2 hours with no traffic. The last time we were there it took almost 4 hours from Miami
You might make Key Largo in 4 hours but even for that you would need to average around 80 mph which is possible down as far as Boca but after that forget it during daylight hours. We have spent well over an hour from Fort Lauderdale to Miami several times.
