Adchoice

I've managed to pick up Adchoice from somewhere. It's not in Programs so I can't remove it, and nothing else looks suspicious. I've tried a Malwarebytes run, and that found nothing. I don't know what to do, and I'm confused by the Google solutions. I also can't seem to get into safe mode to run Malwarebytes again. Also my copy of Malwarebytes says it's a trial version, although I'm sure I've elected to download the free version. Can anyone give me fairly simple instructions on how to get rid of Adchoices which is very annoying. Many thanks, fp

    1. mbam should be run in normal, not safe mode.
    2. you'll also need to run adwcleaner and jrt
    3. you may need to manually reset your browsers for homepage & search engine

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    Hi fpcat ..
Your malwarebytes will say that its a trial version because when you downloaded the free version, you will have left a tick in the box that says "also start free trial of PRO" or something similar ..
Im surprised it found nothing .. But GunJacks advice above is sound - Don't run it in safe mode as lots of the services and drivers etc that malwarebytes needs to interrogate are not loaded in safe mode.

Take GunJacks advice and run ADW cleaner to tidy up registry entries and files that the c4rapware has left behind
And also manually reset your homepage to google or whatever as also stated above.

If you still feel you have a problem, please tell me where this adchoices is presenting its self as that will help us to determine where the issue is.

Hi Andy, I've run all 3 scans as suggested by GunJack (Thank you for the info GunJack) and all have found nothing. Checking my occasions of Adchoices I've realised that they are more or less all on the craft sites I use daily, and those are all linked, using the same servers (or so it seems). Is it possible that the adchoices is only there at the moment rather than infecting my laptop (which is a Toshiba by the way). I've just reactivated Adblocker, which was interfering with my email program, disabling it for the Talktalk site only.
If the adchoices is only in my craft websites I presume it's something they have set up and I can't do anything about it. Anyway thanks for the help both of you, I'm going to save a link to this thread, just in case! fp

Sorry, just realised there is an advert powered by Adchoices on the right side of the Ebay page I'm looking at at the moment, so it's not just my craft pages. That's a bit of a blow.

These are ads put there by the website itself. What makes you think that you cought something?

Use Firefox or Chrome together with the Adblock extension and these will be gone. On the other hand, your craft pages might need the money from the ads to pay for all costs.

Thanks for all your help, it is only on websites, not my PC thankfully. I wish I'd asked for help before trying to fix it myself, less time would have been wasted.

Wow, the only thanked post in this thread is for the person who asked the question, not the people who actually helped him/her...
