Stupid Aviva quote

Just been looking round for buildings/contents insurance via the comparison sites. The best quotes have come in at under £80 but most are a smidgen over the £100 mark. (The most expensive was still under £300)
I thought I'd give Aviva a try and they have come back with...wait for it...£878.00!!
Now, I realise that there is going to be a bit of variation between companies due to a variety of factors but to be over eleven times more expensive is astonishing!
I'm starting to wonder if Aviva has some erroneous data in their database which is flagging our postcode up as a high risk area, when all the other insurance companies have it recorded as low risk. Obviously, if there is incorrect data on the system, I'd like to get it corrected! Or at least be aware of what Aviva think is wrong with the area...
Aviva insist there is no chance that their website has made a mistake and that their data is correct. I have double checked the details I put in..
Is there any way of finding out what data is held? (Aviva won't tell me)
Or, is it just that Aviva are stupidly expensive? How do they hope to get any customers?

UPDATE: The quote email says £878 yet the screen grab of their website says £857! Despite Aviva insisting their website doesn't make mistakes, it's clearly screwy!!0

Why are you even bothered? Aviva don't want your business, that's their choice. As you've discovered, plenty of others do want your business. All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0

Virtually identical house in next street - £280.
Personally, I think that if they hold data on the place that I live I'm entitled to see it and correct it if it's wrong.0 -

Well, unfortunately, you aren't.
They're allowed to base their decisions on who to insure and for how much based on any criteria they like that don't fall into the category of illegal discrimination, if that's because they think your area's high risk, they don't like your job title, or your house number is an even rather than an odd number, it's basically their choice.
Not really any point fighting it, there are plenty of other insurers to choose from, if they've made a mistake in their classifications that prevents them from getting business they otherwise would, that's their problem.
FWIW no Aviva aren't expensive across the board - My buildings + contents is with them, and has been consistently cheaper for me than any other comparable cover for several years running.0 -

It could be they've paid out on a subsidence claim for a neighboor or neighboors or other large claims in your road.
If they don't want business in your road, they're entitled to price themselves out of the market0 -
I too had a quote of over £300 on their website, last year they quoted me about £125. Did not save this years.
A day later they rang and asked if the quote was good, told them it was at least over £200 more. than last year, a silly amount , and i had a better one. Email arrived next day quoting £147 so yes i think their website is going wrong.0
