Income protection insurance

DH's job is currently 35 hours a week.
He's just come across some documents (which he wasn't supposed to see). They state that his manager should tell him about reducing his hours to 25 a week and that would obviously go with a reduction in income.
We can't afford to have his income reduced! He just saw his manager at work and she didn't say anything about having a word with him. But she's the worst manager imaginable (doesn't do anything, when she does do something it's always too late, because of her incompetence wages have been paid late on several occasions, the centre has missed out on thousands of funding, ...).
Can we take out an insurance to protect his income?

No you can't. Income protection insurance is there for cases of redundancy or ill health & any pre-existing conditions in the case of a health issue are excluded along with any prior knowledge or suspicion that a person may be facing redundancy. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
