I have a Kingston 8GB SD card, I want to format it but when attempting I get a pop up saying, "The disk is write protected", I did not protect it, how can I format the card?

TIA

It should have a little slider on the side of it to toggle write protection on or off .. ?

Ah, right, it is a micro SD in an adaptor, I thought that "lock" slider was to keep the micro in the adaptor:o

Thanks, it is now formatting, learn something new every day.

    how are you formatting it?

the card is a "chip" not a hard drive , only later versions of windows actually recognises SSD (chip) devices , and then only as hard drives , not pendrives or sd cards

use a dedicated proggy for formatting a card

from memory (on tablet at moment) this one works good

    will it?

The SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards have a "Protected Area" on the card for the SD standard's security function. The SD Formatter does not format the "Protected Area".

wheras a windows format does not know the difference between a h/drive and an sd card

    ok , carry on

the information you have suggested will work , but in some cases reduce the life of an sd card , the sd card foundation wrote a programme that extends and optimises the life of an sd card , so why not use it?
