Good morning everyone - thanks to Ziggy for starting us and hello to everyone else, enjoy your holidays those of you lucky enough to be going away!
My things for today:
Pick up library book that has come in (forgot yesterday)
Go to Halifax and withdraw cash from DS's low paying interest account to be used for his monthly standing orders to his high paying account - it's a hassle but means he gets 6% interest on £100 a month.
Check banking - all fine, down to £0 but OH gets paid tomorrow so I do too! Free evening out tonight and lunch made so shouldn't need any more cash. Might have soup at work before I leave so I'm not tempted to get a sandwich at the station before going home.
Check freebies board
Finish my TV programme on the train home
Swagbucks - try and get to £5 Amazon cashout today
I think that's everything. Have happy DFW days all!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

Morning everyone!
Im all upside down and inside out at the moment, my bodyclock sort of stopped I think, so I have been up all night and am just about to try for some sleep before I am sick with tiredness:( but thought I'd quickly post first.
Went to the laundrette this morning when they first opened. While washing was in I popped to Greggs and had my *FREE* breakfast for loading money onto the app:j
Popped into Co-Op, no YS bargains today so tried Tesco, picked up a couple of punnets of blueberries with 25% extra free plus reduced by 25%:T They also had lacrofree milk at 3 for £3, only had semi skimmed and full fat so bought semi and will dilute down, so more or less 6 litres for £3, that will do!:p
Needed batteries so used Boots points :T
Hung washing out on the line:j
Did a couple of surveys, have now earned over £10 in Nectar points this week, even with a very frustrating run of 6 in a row that I didnt qualify for:mad:. I now have £15 in Nectar points in all which should more or less cover the shop I need to do this afternoon or tomorrow:A
Oh, I applied for a credit card yesterday. I havent had any credit or debt for 8yrs, and no new debt for about 12yrs and have no desire nor intention of getting in debt again. However I also have no credit history now either, so for that reason, plus the extra protection for purchases, I decided to apply for a card. My application has been referred, probably for a combination of reasons - lack of history, only a year at current address and being on benefits. I remember the anxiety I used to feel if an application was referred, the panic of how on earth would I cope if I wasnt accepted because I so desperately *needed* the credit. This time while yes I'd like to know (I am naturally impatient!) there is no anxiety at all - if I get it great, if not its not the end of the world, I will try again in another year. Nor am I worried about the interest rate as I have no intention of ever needing to pay any interest, if I get it I will use it for one or two things a month and pay in full each time. I have absolutely nothing to show for the massive debt I was once in, nothing whatsoever, but the lessons I have learned almost make it worth it, certainly I will never get myself in that mess ever again.
Right, I am going to see if I can get a few hours sleep. Hope you all have a good, frugal day:T0 -
Just had a call from RAC following my complaint - getting £50 put into my bank as a "gesture of goodwill"! Lady said she had listened to my call and could clearly tell that I was stressed!!! Just shows that it pays to complain if you're not happy about something!Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
Current debt - £5,555.00
Total paid off - £10,045.89 (64% paid off)0 -
Hi DFWs
I think we all need to remind ourselves to be kind to ourselves, and appreciate all the efforts we are making to become DF. In this world of high pressure, fast living and almost instant gratification, we forget that it took us considerable time to get into debt and it will take time to get out of it and we get frustrated that our thrifty/frugal efforts haven't made a huge impact.
But with the slowly and surely approach, we will get there and it will be more worthwhile and satisfying when we do.
Blimey, don't know what came over me then !! But I know that I get annoyed with self when things don't go to plan and another school letter is asking for a trip payment, or kids need new shoes earlier than we'd planned, or the boiler goes wrong etc. Keep calm and smile
So today I have/will:
Check in with friend with v poorly Dad - awaiting news from Docs at mo

UThanks Ziggy for starting us today.
We were up and out early this morning as I was running a Home Education (HE) workshop this morning afterwards many of us stayed around and had an informal picnic. Back home now for a few hours then we are going to the theatre this evening.
I'm quiet envious of all of you who are going camping soon, our next camping trip has been delayed by a week, we have two HE camping trips planned for June both are very local. I need to look at the schedule and work out when we can squeeze in some family trips, at least one of which will be to Filey

OK peeps, can feel my finances running away from me. Have just agreed to £125 a month additional work costs, that frankly I can not afford. But, I know you have to spend sometimes to keep up with the times and this is one of those occasions. still it is a fortune to find on top of all the other I need to find! Sighing!
On a personal level I have just bought my last chest of drawers for the house we are now living in and feel I can now manage with what I have. ~at times I feel smug, one bedroom done for £30, another £80 and one, the guest room, £350 for stunning chest and £200 for a half price bed. Linen was bought 2 years ago with curtains, so room is complete and I do not think it could be nicer if I had spent treble!( I have no taste so this is not a definite)
Now, I need to refocus, get back to under £40 a week groceries and STOP buying lunches at £5 a day. Have been so grateful to be well enough to work that I have just done whatever I needed to get through each day. As I am now caught up and feeling more like a human, feel it is time to restart operation MONEY.
Watch this space...or not, may crash, it is hard to get back on track sometimes.:cool:0 -

Thank you, I wish I could, I feeli like I'm having a panic attack at the moment, I feel so poorly it's untrue. Nothing seems to be going right and I am just worrying with everything that we do.I know 'one day' it will be alright - but at what cost? Me feeling so sick with worry while they sort all of our claims out, them deciding we don't deserve any help and then I have to appeal, or getting another compliance check letter through again? I had a letter come through today from them saying it had now been sorted, but it doesn't help me emotionally, or my family and I financially at all right now.
Sorry for the mini-rant. Will try and smile...0 -
Hi all, just dropping in quickly, lots still to do do.
The nice people at tax credits have dropped a bombshell. We expected tax credits to go down from £650 a month to £250 but now they have sent a calculation saying it will be £65!!! DS is 16, hasnt been in full time education due to his health for 6 years and is now supposed to be in full time education in order for tax credits to continue. Need to look at this more closely in a bit.
Dog to walk, washing up to do, need a few bits from L*dl, paperwork to do for OH and DS to pick up. Not going to be a relaxing evening.
Oh on the plus side when I was ill I filed a cheque from one of OHs customers instead of banking it so the bank balance is healthier than I thought!!!0 -
