Singapore Hotel recommendations ?

Options
Hi,

I shall be stopping off in Singapore for a couple of nights in September, flying in to Changia, has anyone got any personal recommendations of hotels, also I believe the transit system from the airport to Hotels by mini bus etc seems to work according to reviews, any views ?

Not looking for the Raffels, just somewhere as a decent base for a couple of days getting around, I used to go to School on the Alexander Road, I spent many years there, but unfortunately that was many years ago :o

Thanks HC

We stayed in the Royal Plaza on Scotts when we visited. It's not Raffles expensive but isn't budget either. The hotel was lovely and I would recommend it - with the proviso that we went in 2008 so things may have changed since then.

    Whats your budget?

Just consider that Singapore is very expensive when it comes to hotels. I have stayed in the Marina Bay Sands which is amazing but depending on the answer to my question may be a little on the pricey side.

Haven't really stayed at the budget end in Singapore. My preference is the Fullerton, I like being close to Boat Quay and am not a shopper, so no interest in Orchard Road area.

The Ritz Carlton has fantastic service, and for a slightly less expensive option I have stayed in the Swissotel Grand Stamford before. It's not very distinctive, but good quality and very central location to get anywhere in Singapore.

If you prefer to be at the heart of the shopping, of course Orchard Road would be more popular.

Many people like the Marina Bay Sands, must admit I prefer to visit the rooftop bar/pool rather than stay there, but it is impressive.

When we stopped over in December, we stayed at the Naumi Hotel on the way out, and Wangz on the way back. Didn't have any issues with either of them, but the Naumi was probably the better of the two.

Both are in good locations - the Naumi is right by Raffles and Wangz is surrounded by good chicken and rice places (and a really superb dim sum takeaway!).

    I've been Money Tipped!
We loved the Pan Pacific last year. It is in a good location, walkable to Raffles and the Singapore flyer, and close to good shopping malls for eating etc. We would definitely stay there again.

As you'll have read above, there are many hotels and really they are all fine.
Just depends what location you want and your budget.

Why not look through Hotel Asia website. find one or two you like and ask on here about them.
Because with all the answers you are likely to get to your question it won't be narrowed down at all.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

+1 for The Fullerton - elegant historic building but modern and comfortable inside. Fantastic location in the old bit of town.

Thanks for all the replies, I think we will go for the Regent Hotel ? it is in the area I want towards Tanglin and Alexander, so good to visit my old boarding school etc, I also want to visit Zam Zams in the Indian quarter as my father when he was stationed in Singapore always used to go on about the place, albeit that was in the 50's but it is still going strong, thanks again

Also close to the Regent hotel is the St. Regis, which is where I stayed a couple of years ago. Another very nice, comfortable place.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
