Hoover tumble dryer from argos

Options
8 weeks ago we bought a Hoover condenser dryer from Argos. We paid by credit card.

We paid over the phone but Argos didn't send us a receipt. My husband chased them for a receipt and he was told they don't give out receipts for phone orders. After a lot of persuasion they eventually emailed us a copy of our order.

Ever since we took delivery of the dryer (8 weeks ago) we have had problems with the dryer. It takes far too long for the clothes to dry (13 hours).

Hoover sent out an engineer today and before the engineer even looked at the dryer he said there was nothing wrong with it. He said it was our fault because we weren't putting in a 7kg load. He checked the machine and said according to his little computer there is nothing wrong with the dryer.

I have used lots of dryers over the years and have never had a problem with them before.

I phoned Argos today after the engineer left and they have refused to give us back our money. They say they will stand by the engineers report and they will only give us our money back if we pay for an independent report of our own.

Not sure what engineer I should use and where I would even look for one?

(It has cost us a fortune already making lots of calls to Hoover to get their engineer to look at the dryer as they have a premium rate number.)

Were you putting in a 7kg load?

As for the independent report, you could try your local repair shops (that repair these types of machine) and ask if they provide such a report and how much.

I've never heard of a dryer where you had to put in 7kg for it to work. Does it state this in the manual? The other week I caught my sister popping a single pair of my nephews underpants in my dryer - it worked just fine and they were dry in no time, though I was annoyed at the huge waste of energy.

Why did you use their 'premium rate number'?
