Quiet time at work - what do you do?

it's a bit quieter at work so have more 'spare time'... what do you do with your downtime usually?

I'd be wondering about why there *was* any quiet time.

These days, businesses want to employ the minimum of people for the job so as not to have staff doing nothing.

Is this a sign that business is not good? If so, spend the time looking for something new.

Reorganise the filing system, chase aged debts - completely outside my role but it helps out others and it's the kind of mindless work that I find therapeutic :p

sometimes it happens in between assignments... doesn't last very long but it's hard to adjust from busy-busy-busy to bench!

Hit my backburner. In the last decade, I don't think I can remember one time I *literally* had nothing to do. I'd expect people to ask for suggestions if they thought they did.

    Actually eat my lunch?

I don't know if there's a difference in what people perceive as 'quiet time'.

I work in events, so alternate between 10 - 14 hour days, and just working core hours (10 till 3).

There's always some little bitsy things to do - phone people back, tidy the store room, plan for the next event... but functionally, I often use downtime to actually leave my desk/office at lunch and remember what the world looks like.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I am doing some well overdue training courses - always handy.
By quiet I mean when you have a little extra time in your day compared when it's BUSY.

Do you (all) work like 12/14 hours a day non-stop EVERYDAY? Sounds like it!
