bought a used van but they forgot to put the spare wheel in

I got my van on Saturday after it got delivered by the dealer. Yesterday when I looked underneath the van, I noticed no spare wheel. I just phoned them now and I got told he forgot to put it inside the van when I asked them to. They don't want to send it because it will cost them nearly £50 to send it. I don't see why I should drive an hour for their mistake just to pick it up from them.

what do you think would be the best thing to do?

Tell them you want them to send it, and don't take no for an answer. Otherwise, offer to come and pick it up for the cost of the diesel. Simple.

To be fair to the dealer, it's not their fault they're an hour away from you - you could have gone to a dealer closer to home, but in this case I would expect them to send the wheel out.

It's also worth pointing out to them that you can get a wheel couriered for a lot less than £50. I sent a wheel and tyre for a motorhome (16" steel with Conti commercial tyre) for less than £20 not that long ago. Parcel2Go would do it.

I read it as they were half an hour away (a one hour trip).

TBH I'd suggest meeting them somewhere halfway.

But in the end, I wouldn't be making a fuss about something so trivial and I'd go and get it.

Possibly... I read it as 'drive an hour, pick it up' without the implicit 'drive an hour home' :)

Yeah it will be 1.2 hour each way depending on trafic, I personally think its silly to do that just for a tyre. Meeting half way sounds like a plan. Or maybe go half on the courier service cost. Seriously, its not my fault but im worried they might be a !!!!!! about it and try to find another excuse.

I hope im in a good position if things get ugly.....

Why not have a look on Gumtree and ebay to see if there is one being sold locally to you and if there is, contact the dealer and ask if they would be willing to cover the cost if you bought it. (providing of course that it's not horrendously expensive).

as they are only 1/2 and hour away, and the fact you have bought a van, are you using it for work? do you travel aroundd a bit? if so could you not ask the dealer to keep the wheel until your next out that way on your travels? if not i would go and get it, sods law says you will get a puncture without it!
