Xp Sp2 Problems

I'm having some issues with my P.C and need some help from you experts. I had a virus and had to completly reinstall windows to my pc, i had sp2 running but didnt have the update disc and got it from microsoft again to also reinstall. Before reinstalling windows and the virus I had xp sp2 running and it was fine. When windows was reinstalled it was running fine, I then reinstalled SP2 and now my system wont shut down, it just hangs, it also wont install updates when I go to microsofts website it says checking your system and then does nothing. Has anyone came across this or offer help.
I have visited microsofts website but couldnt find any answers, plenty of people with similar probs but no answers

I came across what could be your problem. One of the MS updates stops a problem where milicious ware or a virus stops you downloading the fixes using the update feature.
bit of a catch 22 situation if one of the updates and solve the problem.
If you think this is the case you can download the updates elswhere.
You could download Autopatcher XP which includes all microsoft updates and patches and installs which ever ones you select from your own computer.
