Natwest

Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I recently got contacted by Natwest saying I had been overcharged and to contact them for a refund. I did that and was told £378 had been payed into my account in 2012 and they wanted to return it. The thing is I closed the account in 2010. They kept asking if I had been affected financially by this and won't tell me anything about where the money came from.

Can money be payed into an account that has been closed/doesn't exist for 2 years?

Could it be related the the Advantage Hold account I had that I felt I was mid sold?

Cheers

In a fashion, yes it can. If the account was actually closed (rather than you stopped using it) then the money would be redirected to a suspense account. The bank should then look to either return the money or distribute it to the account holder. It appears that bit didnt happen.
