Hi All
I have recently applied for carers allowance and had a letter last month to say that I am entitled to carers and once they have checked My partners ESA out they will pay what the owe to me on the 25th may, However when I phoned them they informed me of the back pay from 26th june 2014- 24th may 2015 (48weeks) and how much is going to be as a lump sum which I feel isnt right and is short of quite alot of money, do they backpay it at the weekly rate of £62.10? because ive worked it out they are only backpaying me at a rate of around £35 a week.
Is this right or should they be backpaying the full weekly amount x48 weeks worth?
Please help asap
Thankyou

They will have to recover part of the money from your partner's ESA, what is left is the carer premium that would of been payable had it been paid on time.
The CA is taken into account as income on ESA but then a premium is added to the ESA appropriate amount ie it increases to take into account you are a carer and what you have been paid is that premium. You will be paid the £62.10 by carers each week.0
