The figures indicate that the code of 1000L was used for the full tax year on a non-cumulative basis. This means that any tax allowance given for the payment of 11/4/14 will probably have caused an underpayment of tax. Do you have a copy of the P45 issued by the old employer either part 1A or perhaps all parts as it appears not to have been given to your new employer. It is these details that will show for certain if there has been an underpayment.

I don't think I do. I'll have a look tonight but I don't remember being given it or giving it to my new employer

It is the payment that you referred to earlier "....I did receive payment from my previous job on 11th april 14." that is the one that details are needed for.

Ah sorry, here's the 11th April 2014 one

    earnings to date 527.35
    taxable pay 527.35

That's all that's on it as it basically just payment for the rest of March

Though I have just noticed that on the March 2014 payslip my tax code is 944L but the April 2014 is 1000L (which is what I understand is normal) Just not sure why my current job had it as 1000L/1 for a year

You have 527.35 on which tax has not been paid (about 105.00 tax) Hmrc will probably spread this over a year when they get round to it.

944L was the normal tax code for 2013/2014 tax year which changed to 1000L for 2014/2015 and to 1060L for 2015/2016.
As you did not hand in a P45 you were put onto the emergency tax code in this case 1000L month 1 and for some reason stayed on that for the whole year.

So for some unknown reason I've been on emergency tax for a year? Well as long as I've not overpaid and I don't owe them anything I'm happy :) just didn't know what it meant is all

Down to you mostly. You didn't hand over your P45 nor contact HMRC.

You haven't overpaid - you have underpaid so you do owe tax. As chrisbur says you owe £105.

I didn't know I had to, my previous job was my first job ever and this one is my second so I didn't know what switching over involved. Plus I was never asked for it either.

That's fine then if they're going to ask for it they can have it

The instructions are clearly written on the form itself, so now you know that when you are given an official form you should read it.
The only thing that is constant is change.
