House buying companies -long post

Hi
I have created an alias for the purpose of this thread.

DH and I presently live in a 2 bed upstairs flat.nwe access the property through a close and then up outside stairs. My neighbour downstairs is wonderful as are the owners on the right. The left is another story completely.

As well as being nasty people they keep their "garden" like a slum. The previous owner laid slabs all over as it was better for his wife who was ill. The present owner has allowed it to become more like a slum. I have previously reported it to environmental health who tell them to clean it up. That lasts a few days. It is covered with rubbish, dog faeces and really is an eyesore.

The problem is that as I come through the close this eyesore is facing me even though we have our own access along the path at the bottom of the stairs. My husband and I are disabled and both of us are now having problems with the stairs and I have just applied to various housing associations to get amenity or sheltered housing before I end up needing a wheelchair. Unfortunatly there isn't enough capital to buy another property.

Our major issue is that we will never ever be able to sell our flat the conventional way due to the pigsty created by next door so we wondered if going down the route of the property buying companies. We know that we will take a hit with the value but really don't know much else.

Sorry about the long post but we really could do with advice please. We are in Scotland if it makes a difference

Why not auction? All the property buying companies are going to do is sell it on, so cut out the middle man.

Have you asked any estate agents for their view?

It will sell if the price is right.
And that price will still be more than you would get from those property-buying companies.
  • Thank you so much. I definitely need to look and see about auction. I'm just so upset about next door and their aggression and filthyness. I know one of the other people round the corner had dreadful problems selling as her back door opened onto the piggery. That's why we really couldn't see anyone wanting it. I think panic is just setting in due to his recent bout of nastiness where he put a gate across the close to let his staffie run between his back door which opens into the close. I'm probably panicking although thinking about it. If we are lucky enough to get an amenity house then realistically we wouldn't have to sell this place immediately as we own it outright.

It's such a shame as this was a lovely place with delightful neighbours and to think how it is now
