Thanks for the replies. I'm interested to see their reply as to how the "genuine occupational requirement" applies to this role as a programme facilitator at a prison, it may be a genuine mistake with their website. Even so, I intend to make it known to the relevant authorities because perfectly able candidates may have been declined the option to apply and it's the sort of mistake that has to be avoided.

A programme facilitator for a charity that "formed over 50 years ago by a group of Christians spurred by passion, commitment and a desire to see the lives of offenders changed for the better.
Our organisation is established on Christian principles and foundations "

So a programme facilitator who is Christian would seem to be a Genuine occupational requirement.

By the way, you would not be hired by the prison service, you would be hired by a charity to work in a prison, very different!

I would let it go. It seems to me that they would prefer all their staff to be practising Christians, but are required by law not to discriminate, although they say this is essential at the senior levels. They hold prayer meetings...
would anyone of no or other religion feel comfortable in such an atmosphere?

I wonder what benefit it is being Christian for a Finance administrator? e.g. http://applythis.net/LangleyHouse2015/Search/Vacancy/All/1/1624513/Finance%20Administrator%20Coventry%20England.html or accountant?

I suspect some of these jobs posting would be illegally discriminating.

Compare those requirements to the JNFs Financial controller position; where there is no mention of Judaism.. or a 'day team leader' - https://jewcali.webitrent.com/jewcali_webrecruitment/wrd/run/ETREC107GF.open?VACANCY_ID%3d0806100rfA%1BUSESSION=ADAEF1E0FF0911E4A634AC8E5110BAE2&WVID=9302930dsA&LANG=USA. Again, you don't need to be Jewish, just have a 'Understanding of Jewish values and culture would be desirable.' - which seems fair enough, and is non-discriminatory.

Oh well, horses for coures; but they should really have a competent HR specialist look at their job adverts to make them more compliant with the law.

e.g. if the requirement is that they must be willing to participate in Christian prayer, then put that as a requirement, not 'Actively Christian'.

A non Christian can work and live according to the same principles as a practising Christian.

And plenty of Christians can disagree with plenty of other Christians about what Christian principles even are anyway.

Don't you think that advertising on those websites is a bit of a clue that they're looking for Jewish applicants?

If you ever visit a Jewish-charity run care home, you'll find the vast majority of employees are probably not Jewish.

Yes - i expect people who go to work for Jewish-specific charities (e.g. http://www.norwood.org.uk) are likely to be Jewish; but I highly doubt they'd be specifying this in their job adverts. The charities would be very unlikely to be 'religious' in their activities; and more social and community active.

Shouldn't a Christian charity operate under similar means? What if they want 'people with Christian values' like the ones in Leviticus that would fall under various discrimination laws?

Like genocide (Exodus 12: 4-13), child sacrifice (Genesis 22:2), slavery (1 Peter 2:18), homophobia (Leviticus 18:22) and pimping out your virgin daughters (Genesis 19:8).

Just as well we've got god to help us live our lives properly, eh?

How could you possibly tell that?

4 out of 5 of those are from the Old Testament.
