Yes catford you can upgrade to XP , I haven't personally used the 2000 version of windows so I wouldn't be able to advise you of the benefits that XP offer over the 2000.
You wouldn't have to clear the 2000 software as XP just updates the various bits it needs to, and as far as purchasing the software, you could try on Ebay or Im sure someone else will be able to advise you of a cheap place to buy it.These are the Good 'ol Days just wait and see!0 -
You can only upgrade to XP Professional. Upgrade table from Microsoft HEREWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

I installed win2k back in 1999 when it first came out. Personally, I have always believed windows2000 to be better than XP in terms of stability and cleanliness; although I think some might disagree (although XP has got much better since SP2). That said, XP is based on 2000.
I wouldn't spend hundreds of £'s on XP if you have 2000... most people will only notice a difference in how it looks. You might do better to save your money and hold out for longhorn.0 -
I had 2000 before XP and was happy with it.
Got XP for the new pc and although it does have more features and a 'firewall' ,its not really any better. I clean installed mine and recieved a virus the minute I went online so now have a 'real ' firewall and antivirus prog. XP is more compatible with games though so that is one good reason to change.
It does seem to update itself a lot but I suppose that is better than having to go to the microsoft site and finding the updates.0
