Tiling over Bathroom/Kitchen Paint

Options
I'm just about to try and tile my on-suite shower/basin. The old tiles have been removed and the plumber has done all the pipework for the new toilet, basin and shower to go in.

The old tiles only used to go half way up the wall and the rest was painted with bathroom/kitchen type paint which is waterproof.

I plan to tile up to the celling and my question is would I need to remove this paint or can I tile over it.

  • I just found this over on UHM- Tiling over paint

But I think rather than testing with masking tape you should use carpet tape as it is much stickier, if the paint lifts then it will need to be removed- not with chemical paint remover!

Make sure you do not use PVA as a tiling primer in bathrooms ;)
