How big was the knock? Look inside case and check for CPU fan detached; check hard disk cables look connected.sebastianj wrote: »my pc had a knock
Safe mode is normally F8
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
Try and find Repair Your Computer.0 -
Boot and Hit F8 at startup .
Postback if no safe mode .0 -
Did hit f8 did not go to Safe Mode, looking at how to take the cover off, no success yet. Couple of messages flash, Bios come up, then no Keyboard detected, then disk error and just sits there and do nothing.

You need to get into the BIOS (F2 or delete - computer should prompt for a key to "enter settings") and confirm it at least sees the hard drive.0

In Bios there were 3 options , cd, hard disk and i think usb.

Those are the drives you can boot from. I presume selecting "hard disk" gives disk error?sebastianj wrote: »In Bios there were 3 options , cd, hard disk and i think usb.

Before that (right at the start the BIOS should says "Enter F2 to enter settings" or "Delete" key.
If it doesn't say that, try F2 or Delete anyway. This will get you into the BIOS settings where you will see the hard drives listed (perhaps only 1 on your case). If its NOT listed its either broken or disconnected.0 -
Well well, not any skills, just managed to take the panel off, moved wirs around and hey presto, it switches. Problem now is 'No sound', all the wires are plugged in, I may have connected something wrong, don't really know how to approach this. Dare not wiggle the wires again, frostrating.

You might have disconnected the cable to your speakers or connected it to the wrong socket at the back of your PC. Play some music on your PC and try out every socket until you hear something.
If you have a sound system with more than one cable, search for a 5.1 test file and play that. Try out every cable with every remaining socket until you hear "front left" from the front left speaker and so on.0 -
....or you may have to go into the sound settings in the Control Panel and reset the default sound device and/or the other settings in there
......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
