Car Insurance USA

I have a holiday home in the USA and drive my own car whilst there. I have fully comp car insurance but it isn't (and would never be) enough to cover the medical bills I could incur should I have a serious car crash. I thought my travel insurance policy which gives me £10m medical expenses cover would provide sufficient cover. However I now discover that Travel Insurance typically does not cover injuries received in a car accident as there is a presumption you are driving a hire car and that you will have taken out car hire insurance. How then do I ensure that I get sufficient cover for any medical expenses incurred due to a crash in my own car?

What travel insurance policy is it? I have used a fair few policies for the US and never noticed a clause that excludes medical expenses from a car accident.

Same here. OP give us an example of travel insurance which doesn't cover medical expenses in road accidents. Some won't cover medical expenses when using a motorbike, but never known one not to cover a car. They won't cover liability for using a car, and they probably won't cover compensatory type claims (usual personal accident type insurance, eg £5000 if you lose an arm, £2,000 an eye, that type of thing), but they should cover medical expenses.Icequeen99 wrote: »What travel insurance policy is it?
