balance transfer by cheque - how long?

I recently did a balance transfer with Nationwide, from a Halifax card. As the Halifax do not allow electronic transfers, the transfer happened by way of a cheque.

Nationwide posted the cheque to Halifax on Thu 7th May. Amount appeared on Nationwide account 8th May.

As of today, nothing has appeared on the Halifax card... should I be worried yet?

Already have. All he could tell me was what I can see myself online, that the payment hadn't reached my account yet. He couldn't tell me if the cheque had been received at all, if it was still waiting to clear, etc.

The official stance is 7-10 working days, so I guess I need to wait 2 more days before chasing it further.

Was just wondering if anyone else had had a balance transfer achieved by cheque and how long it took?

Neither had I, it was only when I contacted Nationwide after a couple of days of it not appearing on the Halifax that I got told...


After reviewing your account I can confirm that we have had to send a cheque to Halifax due to the fact they will not accept electronic transfer when we send a cheque we advise of a 7-10 working day timescale for this to clear with the other bank.

The cheque was sent on 7 May 2015 the payment should clear by 21 May 2015 at the latest
