Income support investigation

  • That was actually the whole letter it didn't say anything else apart from yours sincerely at the end, I have got a letter from my mum she is disabled and has said she would of paid the tutor directly but as she is disabled that is difficult so she gave me the money to pay the tutor instead, tutor will coroborate this if necessary. It seems looking around that a few people are getting these letters, and I had a work focused interview with the same guy who wrote me this letter a few months ago.

I am quite worried now but these tutor sessions for my daughter are vital as she is severely dyslexic and dyspraxic so she needs all the help she can get and I honestly just wasn't thinking of the DWP when arranging the tutor for my daughter. Will they stop my payments after the interview while they investigate? If they do I don't know how myself and 2 children will suvive, I have no savings, no capital, nothing! Surely they wouldn't be that cruel?

Oh please don't worry. This sounds very much like a routine check, nothing else. I very much doubt they will question your mum giving £15.
At worse, you will just have to clarify things that they are not sure about. Clarify, not justify.

    It will be absolutely fine.

If it were an investigation they wouldn't need your bank statements, they'd already have got them from your bank!

It sounds like a letter from Compliance who are just checking you are receiving the correct amount of benefit. Compliance would not have your Bank statements, only a Fraud Officer would have the power to obtain your Bank statements without your authority.
If you're only worry is the money your Mum pays for your child's lessons then there will be no problem as it will be fully disregarded and wouldn't affect your Income Support. I suggest you take a letter from your Mum as confirmation of the payments just to ensure there are no delays on your next payment-just in case they want verification.

I had a virtually identical letter the last time I was on JSA (about a year ago, in the Havering area) It was given to me by my advisor at a signing on - she told me it was just a routine check type thing and everyone gets one from time to time. I went to the interview, they photocopied the documents, and I never heard anything further about it. I continued to sign on every two weeks as usual for a further 6 months or so with no problems - so I'm guessing that was true.....

I'd cover yourself regarding the tutor, as others have said, by getting a letter/proof of transfer from your mum and proof of payment to the tutor to take with you in case it's needed, but otherwise (providing, of course, that there are no other anomalies in your claim you are aware of) I wouldn't worry. :)
Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’s. They are broke!
  • Thank you, the payments from my mum comes directly from her bank to mine, and i have already obtained a letter from her and the tutor explaining payments for the tutor, theres nothing else I can think of that they would want to see me about, so I am guessing it's just a routine check, infact I will be asking them if there is any further support I can receive for my daughter, like grants etc to help with her extra learning.

I really do appreciate the replies, I feel a lot better now.
    Thanks again
