Garden makeover

I think it's a great idea to feature this in a local paper, and to give others the chance to offer support to the charity, and to be uplifted, as we've all been.
No doubt the labourers from the charity feel equally happy when their efforts are rewarded by seeing the happiness they have brought, to people such as you and family.
I've recently started volunteering at my Citizens Advice Bureau, for a few hours a week, filling in forms for folk who can't get their heads round them, and their appreciation has not only made me feel great, but made me feel useful again, as there's a huge void in my life since DH died.
I hope your lad has a wonderful summer in his special garden.

Cassia, I'm sorry, I don't know of a charity that might be able to help your mum. I do have some suggestions though. Try googling 'disability grants in....' and add the name of the town where your mum lives. Play around with Google and put in different phrases.
Try https://www.disabilty-grants.org - they have a section on gardening for the disabled. One of the charities mentioned can help with grants for adaptations, but you need to be a member first.
If you have a Carer's Centre, they might know of any local assistance. Scope might have some information, or have a local branch that might be able to help.
If your mum wants to grow fruit and veg, but her garden is unsuitable, allotments are sometimes available. One near us has a community plot, where schoolchildren and local disability groups can access the facilities, under the eye and experience of volunteers who run the allotments.
Sandra, good luck with your volunteering - I've volunteered for several years, and as well as being great fun, it really can make a difference to other people. I run Rainbows and Brownies with my daughter, and we have a fantastic time. It's great seeing the girls grow and develop confidence and skills. I know that CAB need more volunteers, and they offer an invaluable service. With your experience, you will also have the empathy that some clients will need. You'll definitely understand that many face challenges and struggle to overcome them. I wish you the best of luck in your new role.0
