Why is it so hard to cancel Carers Allowance?

Trying to sort neighbours benefits out..

Wife has been awarded PIP (standard daily) and was advised to cancel her claim for CA as they are now both now eligible for CA, but would make sense to have it all loaded on to husbands ESA payments.

This was at the start of April.. Apparently it needs to go to a Decision Maker, even though its a stright forward closure. But they say they have a huge back log of CA claims to deal with.

All the while it is messing with hubby's ESA.

Would have been easier to both claimed CA for each other (hubby on full DLA)

Why would she have to cancel her claim for CA? Surely her husband would just claim CA for her.

I am in a similar situation too. My partner gets DLA and I claim CA for him. I now get PIP and are thinking of him applying for CA for me.
I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

This is probably to do with the Severe Disability premium being added to means tested benefits ( in the OP's case ESA)

To have the SDP added there are criteria.

Usually the advice in this situation is to have a full benefits check to see whether one/two/or no CA makes you financially better off.

Yes its to do with the SDP.

Yes they both could have applied for CA but they were advised by DWP to cancel CA and have it loaded onto ESA.
