Forced to leave job

Hi, I'm looking for some help!
My son in law has worked for a communications company for approx 6 months. Saturday he was told by the manager of the shop to hand his notice in with immediate effect as the owner of the company was looking at sacking him. Apparently a mystery shopper had been in and reported back to the owner of his experience! This has culminated in him losing his job!
I really don't believe this is the case.. He was taken on as an admin assistant but was made to do sales, which in itself wasn't a bad thing as this would enable him to earn commission! This brings me to the real reason I think he was given the push to leave. The business has targets, targets that if not met can lead to dismissal! He had been making sales, as this particular shop is very busy it's quite easy to make the sales. But the manager of the shop has been putting these through in his name... Underhanded or what! Even when he was off for a week he didn't get the commission he earned! It was put in the managers name!
I've said that he needed to report this as it's unfair! But the owner of the company and the manager of the shop are very close, so no amount of complaining will make any difference! In fact it would have the opposite effect.
So I think that because my son in law hasn't been seen making the sales because the manager has pinched them all, he's been given the push! Now he can't really prove this, but I'm fuming at his treatment! He's not made waves because he needs a good reference!
Any thoughts from anyone? Can he do anything or is it just a matter of forgetting and carrying on?

    Is this a large business or family run?
    Did the son in law join a union?

    If he did not he certainly should in his next job.

    As he's only been in the job for 6 months he has few, if any, rights. He can be sacked without any reason or explanation. Best to move on and mark it down to experience. There are a lot of people out there who are very quick to claim all the credit and just as quick to transfer all the blame to others. That manager certainly seems to fit the brief!
  • Hi, and thanks for your replies.. Not a large company, and not one I'd heard of until he started working there! And no, no Union! I think I'm I'm inclined to agree, chalk it up to experience and move on, im sure he will find something better! Just gutted for him!
  • This used to happen in travel agents (I'm going back 10 years now! just remembering today what I was doing a decade ago to the very day..) whereby if a customer came in and 2/3 things changed to the holiday the sale could then go to whoever they then sat with - not the original agent (we also had a union came in every so often and all I can remember is the pens) :o

    Telesales is less hassle, hope he uses the 6 months experience to better himself, the world is his oyster, tell him to keep his chin up:)

  • Luckily he has an interview on Wednesday, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for him. My poor daughter is stressing to the max, only just moved into their home so worried about bills and such!

    They could support you in getting the commission that you're owed.

    Once he is in a new job, he needs to mention to his mates what happened in the previous job.

    If everything goes to plan, then they will soon find that they have no customers left and will no longer be trading. This would serve them right.
