Claiming TAX back in America at airport?

Hello!
I am going to America shortly and remember when I travelled with parents a few years ago they showed their receipts to someone at the airport and all of our goods we bought where a certain tax was payable, the tax was refunded to us.
Does anyone know anything about this and what can be refunded and where etc? All replies would be real helpful.
Thanks very much!

Only in Louisiana http://www.louisianataxfree.com (max $500) and Texas (a few restrictions) http://www.taxfreetexas.com/requirements.aspx
Or, to avoid paying sales tax just visit (and shop in) Oregon, Montana, Delaware, New Hampshire or Alaska
California has the highest general sales tax.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Bear in mind if you buy stuff in the US worth over £390 you have to pay tax on it when you bring it back to the UK. See https://www.gov.uk/duty-free-goods/arrivals-from-outside-the-eu0
