Vanquis Refused to Stop Cash Advance

Options
Hey

I signed up for a vanquis credit card today and stupidly took the £50 cash advance option.

I called back almost immediately after the call to stop the advance to be told that it was too late and they would not stop it, when advised I was going to cancel the lot they told me sorry you cannot cancel your application.

Now the money hasn't gone into my bank yet I'm tempting to get Barclays to put a stop on payments into my bank account to prevent Vanquis from paying any money in tomorrow.

Does anyone else have experience of this and sucess at dealing with this underhand technique?

Thanks

J

    What underhand technique?

If you can't not spend the £50 and just give it back (as a payment to the account) and not use the card for anything else this first month then you should not be taking out a 39.9% or 49.9% £250 to £1500 credit card in the first place.

    Not very helpful Nada666

I don't want the advance in the first place... They've got no right to refuse to cancel it.

Someone else coming on here and blaming other peoples 'underhand techniques' for their own behaviour.
How much compo do you want?

Just pay it back as soon as you can - it'll be a couple of pence interest if you do. Once the money arrives in the destination account (tomorrow?), call them with your debit card and settle it there and then.

I'm no fan of Vanquis, but you can't blame them for your accepting their offer. At some stage, you said 'yes' to it. The fact you changed your mind isn't their problem. I'm afraid they've got every right - a contract is a contract, verbal or written.

Anyway, settle it quickly and it won't be an expensive mistake.

I'm not after any compo I made an honest mistake and tried to rectify it and the provider are refusing to although under law you've got 15 days to remove yourself off any credit agreement.

(There'll be a flat £2 or £3-odd cash advance charge in addition to interest, Blondboy.)
