Setting up Kids Account while on DMP

Daughter becomes a teenager this month and we want her to be a lot better with money than her parents so we are starting her on a monthly allowance.

We want to setup a basic kids account with a cash card.

Have tried a couple online and as soon as we put our details in we are simply refused. I guess because of adverse credit on our DMP.

How can a 11-16s account be dependant on the parents credit rating?

I've made an appointment with the RBS this week to discuss because we bank with them (they refused online).

Have looked at all the basic bank accounts for credit pariahs like us and they all say 18 years plus?

Any ideas of basic cash accounts for kids if RBS are going to continue to make it difficult?

Try the FlexOne account from Nationwide. It comes with a choice of debit card or cash card. You'll need to go along with her in branch to open it, and prove both of your identities, but your information doesn't form part of the account opening process, so you won't get credit scored. They should only reject your daughter if they suspect foul play on her part (money laundering etc).

Thanks, have actually just been reading up on that one, as it came top of a guardian article on kids accounts.

Got the RBS Resolve account with no problem in the end. Done there and then. Bit odd when doing it online you are refused? Sorted anyway.
