Hey everyone, I've been having an issue with this for a while now, as I can't seem to find any decisive information from the HMRC or gov.uk websites. Any help would be much appreciated.
As an international student, I'm not allowed to be in self-employment or have a business, that much is clear to me. I can't seem to find out any exact definitions of those two however. Do things like Google Adsense (like Youtube earnings, and to that extent any ad-related earnings from websites/blogs) fall under this category? What about other money-boosting methods, like those mentioned in MSE articles (like online surveys/reviews/ article writing)? As far as I can tell, the distinction lies in whether they're counted as hobbies or businesses, but I can't find an official source for it.
Again, any answer or pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated, I've had this headache for a while now. :P

I'm not a professional but I would not count those things as income unless you're earning loads from them. What kind of annual figure are you looking at from these? I'm expecting it's not enough to neutralise your outgoings, or is it?Apologies for any typos, my phone can't handle the forums.0

Definitely not. It'll be well within personal allowance amounts (£155/£204 a week). But even if it is counted/ goes over the limit, I'm not too bothered by paying tax. My main concern is whether it's still considered as employment, or more worryingly, self-employment, which I'm not allowed to do.0 -
