Lost Deeds - Can I Get A Replacement?

Help!!!! I needed to search out my Deeds but can't find them anywhere. I wonder how I would go about getting a replacement - anyone know? An even bigger problem (or is it?) they are for a jointly owned property in Spain so this is even more important when I am the one supposedly holding them!

I take it you definitely had them in the first place. They aren't with the mortgage lender? (if you have a mortgage?)0

Thanks Nobblyned, unfortunately that might have been the sensible thing to do! They were taken out for copying to send to a Spanish solicitor for Tax purposes on the property's rental and since then they have gone into a Bermuda Triangle. The only thing I think is they got thrown out with a lot of redundant papers as I have looked high and low. Shame no-one knows if one can get a replacement. I only have a copy of them and this is what I have had to use. It seems no-one is as stupid as me!0 -
I always thought that there was only ONE copy of deeds... which is why they are usually kept ONLY in bank vaults.
There is no copy anywhere, I believed.0 -
As far as I'm aware you don't get given them in the first place?
When we bought our first home, we never even saw the deeds. I assume either the solicitor who dealt with us has them in a vault somewhere or the mortgage company has them.0 -
Yes, the mortgage company will have them if you have a mortgage.
But people who have paid off the mortgage will be given the originals.
Then you put them in a vault at your bank for safe keeping.
As a house buyer with a mortgage, closest you will get is maybe a photo copy from your solicitor, if that. Most people never see them until the mortgage's paid off.0
