homebuyers report missed external door fault

Hello,

It's about one week that we moved to new house and. I now noticed attention There is a problem with kitchen's external door : the top of the door does not
Fit with the door case, when the door is closed.

I checked again the homebuyer report and the surveyor supposed he check the external doors and found no repairs are needed.

My solicitor told me I can't claim anything from the seller as its too late.
I m very surprised how the surveyor missed this or really did not pay any attention.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I wouldn't think that would count as something serious, even if it were missed on a full structural survey.

Is it a wooden, or a uPVC door? Either should take thirty minutes of DIY to fix....

Seems a pretty minor fault. Not worth the effort. Just get out a screwdriver or plane.

Your first post suggests that you missed it for a week & you live there!

I only noticed it as I had to use a stool to install the window blind on the door, but the ssurveyor supposed he did a professional inspection.

Have you asked him? Presumably you paid for the report, so it's perfectly reasonable to ask for clarification, although as it's likely to be weeks/months since he visited the house if he didn't make a note of it at the time he probably won't remember now.

Have to agree with the others here.

Rehanging a door is a minor thing to undertake and would probably be classed as a general maintenance job.

The survey would not have really commented on it (certainly not classed as "requiring repair"). It's an easy DIY job. You are buying the house "as seen" the door functions as a door and is not in itself in a state of disrepair.

Homebuyers surveys are not in any way detailed and will only flag things that are obviously in need of attention. (If the door had a hole in it then it would have been mentioned).

It's not like the door needs replacing, which would even then be a minor job and probably not worth paying the fees to your solicitor to chase the money...
