Windows 8.1 problems following upgrade

Hi
Since my laptop took it upon itself to upgrade from windows 8 to 8.1 I have been either locked out of various windows services such as windows update or have received error messages when trying to start them. Since the upgrade I have been automatically logged in on a local account as administrator. Windows will not allow me to convert this to a Microsoft account. All my programs seem to work fine.

If anyone knows a fairly simple way to fix this I would be grateful (I am not very technically minded!) as I do not really want to do a system restore.

Thanks

Could you try creating another user account and see if that will let you do what you need initially?
  • yes. go to settings... pc settings... accounts... add account.
set up as your Microsoft account, and as administrator.
this should help... come back and let the result be known!
    Friendly greeting!
  • Have you tried running the repair utility?

It is conceivable that the "upgrade" was actually a complete install of Windows 8.1. If that's the case, it may be simply that you need to activate the OS again via control panel in order to restore the services you have lost.
