Can Uni students only have one current account?

Hello,

Just looking at Student accounts. Some websites are saying you can only have one current account. My daughter has an ordinary current account that she has her wages paid into, would she have to close it when she opens a student account? Or does it mean you can only have one student account but other current accounts are ok?

It depends on the bank's terms and conditions. But yes, where a student account's T&Cs limit you to one student account, that's what it means. Other current accounts are fine to hold at the same time.

I've yet to come across T&Cs stating you are limited to only that current account (a lot state they must be your "main" account but can that be loopholed) but noone is allowed more than one student account as far as I'm aware (possibly due to the access to the interest-free overdraft).

I have two current accounts and one student account and I know plenty of people with at least one current account in addition to their student account.

If your daughter chooses to stay with her bank they may convert her current account into a student account but she is well within her rights to open a current account elsewhere.
