New job and sacrifices
Comments
-
Hi there,
I have recently been offered a new job and have accepted (I have not had a contract yet, but an offer of employment). It is a good job with good prospects but it will involve being away from home a lot and I will have to sacrifice having a private life. I live with my boyfriend and our time spent together will drastically decrease. I am also training for a half marathon and go to classes in the area, all of which I will have to give up.
I also struggle with depression and anxiety and I am not sure that such a drastic change will be good for me in the long run. So my question is could I change my mind? I have already worked half of my notice at my current job so I need to make a decision sooner rather than later. Would I be tied into this new place as I signed an acceptance? Has anyone made this sacrifice and been glad they did?
Thanks
If you have accepted an offer of employment elsewhere, you have formed a contract and could be sued if you breach that contract.
The reality is that very few employers would bother - they would just be happy they dodged employing someone who doesn't really want to work for them anyway.'
Of course that would probably adversely affect your chances of ever being offered employment by that employer again ... at least for as long as they can remember.
The difficulty you have is that now you have given notice, your current employer has no obligation to employ you past that notice. They may already have re-advertised your job, arranged interview or even have someone lined up for the day after you leave (if not before).
You would need to talk to your employer sooner rather than later, imho.0 -
What sort of T&E policy does the new company have?
If you have a healthy allowance its not bad and you learn to make the most of your time at home, however if your staying in travelodges in the midlands and have £10 a night to spend well that would be grim.0 -

Thanks
I spoke to my current employer and, though nothing is confirmed yet, they are doing all they can to find room to keep me. I'm obviously super grateful for this and a lesson has definitely been learnt!
I spoke to the other company and they were really good about it, which was a massive relief!
Thanks for all of the advice everyone
