I'm small and always found uprights to be unwieldy. I just don't feel they're flexible enough to move around and get into tight corners as quickly/easily as a cylinder is where I'm just having to deal with the nozzle end. Ditto for carrying it upstairs to vacuum stairs - it's easier to lug a cylinder up the stairs and get it to fit safely onto one step while you're vacuuming 2-3 steps above and below it.0

Dyson dc59 for the win!0

I've always been a Dyson guy but kept reading that Henry's were better. I was thinking about getting one then had to use one yesterday at some holiday accommodation. It really made my back ache (I'm 6foot4) and the Dyson never did, which is a shame as it was really powerful.0

I've had Dysons and all sorts over the years but since getting a Charles (A Henry that sucks up wet) I'll never change back. Perfect for spills, dog accidents and even unblocks my drains

I went from a dyson to a henry and regret it from the first moment I used it, I just don't find they are as good as an upright and like someone said, it does hurt your back0

We have a henry and it gets stuck everywhere! Give me an upright any day.0

I voted for cylinder. I've used uprights at homes I clean in and I just can't get on with them, they're not as manoeuvrable, you can't use the long wand to reach the cobwebs like you can on a cylinder either, as it's usually a flexi tube and as above said, they're a nightmare on stairs. I swear by my dyson too, it's an old one, but all you need to do is wash the filters often and buy new ones once a year (£6 off ebay) and it's back to new again.0

cylinders are much more mobile. uprights are a lump and a bit crap on stairs imo0

Cylinder, because you're not pushing and pulling the entire vacuum cleaner back and forth all the time - just the hose.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Cylinder here, love the Henry.0
