Nephew been diagnosed with oral dyspraxia

Hi , My 3 1/2 yr old nephew was yesterday diagnosed with oral dyspraxia . I just wondered if anyone can recommend any CD's , DVD's or books etc that may help us . I know he will be having 5 weeks of speech therapy ( 1 session a week, not sure of how long the session is ) but unsure of what after that so I want to do all I can to help him . I have seen this on Ebay , http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330153554271&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=014 and just wondered what others thought of this . Would this be useful do you think ?

Thanks

Natalie

With that CD you might find a major issue with the fact it's American. Ok they speak 'English' but it isn't the same.

If you ask the SALT he sees they should be able to recommend further help.

Alternatively try http://www.dyspraxiafoundation.org.uk/ (It'll be called Verbal Dyspraxia on there)

Contactafamily can be a great resource http://www.cafamily.org.uk/ also http://www.makingcontact.org/index.php?ci=136

    http://www.ican.org.uk/TalkingPoint/Global%20pages/Library/libTopicList.aspx?topic=Speech,%20including%20Developmental%20Verbal%20Dyspraxia

If I think of any more I will add them. If you search on your local libraries online facility there are many more books on Dyspraxia I have noticed now in libraries.
One day I might be more organised...........

I may be wrong (will look into it in a mo) but I think Oral dyspraxia is different to Verbal dyspraxia and that the 2 should not be confused.

I was told when I originally used the site that I should look for info about both and Dyspraxia in general as all were so similar and support/advice would be also, the info available does not tend to be directly about one type. Obviously there is a difference, it tends to go hand in hand in most cases, but there are also many cases of miss diagnosis, singular diagnosis when both are an issue etc aswell. Does refer on there to them being mixed up, found it happens a lot. There seems to be much more info and advice out there for verbal dyspraxia, but it goes into both parts, most books are just on Dyspraxia in general hence why I suggested using a library as you may find only a few pages are relevant.. I'm still waiting for them to truly decide if they are going to diagnose my son with one, the other, or both, Dyspraxia in general, or something completely different/not at all, considering a private consultation. I've met several proffesionals who should have but didn't know the several types of Dyspraxia. Oral seems to effect him the most especially with the constant dribbling etc..
