Need help understanding the term "percentile" - Memory Issues

Hi Guys,
I have been experiencing problems with my memory for as long as I can remember and I have gone through test after test.. I had a 2 hour test in the Hospital about 2 months ago and I received a letter last week saying that they are raising questions if I have a auditory processing disorder / auditory dyslexia.

The Wechsler test was broken down into sections and the subsections where I was given a score. the majority of my scores where Below average I also had a Borderline and a very low I did however have a couple Average scores.. After reading about the results I have done nothing but been upset about it and it also states that it is unlikely due to my Mood which is "mild depression" and I was scored in a normal range for anxiety .

Now in relation to the scores I was given a percentile . Under the category of Memory I had a 7th Percentile, 3rd Percentile and a 2nd Percentile and these tests involved vocabulary, listening & verbal skills. My highest in the Memory category being 35th Percentile.

I am curious to what Percentile means? for example if I look In particular to the 2nd Percentile does that mean only 2% of the people who performed the same Wechsler test got the same or less result than me? And can anybody advise me are these scores really bad?

thanks

Thanks, I too would like to know the answer to your question.

I spent three sessions at a centre for determining Dementia. They had me doing test after test, drawing pictures, copying figures, remembering numbers and shapes.
Anyhow I saw my GP and I have been diagnosed as early onset Vascular Dementia. I have a copy of the report and it mentions these elements in it, though I have no idea what they are.

I have found out from a dyslexia forum that percentile work's such as the following in my situation.

I had a 7th Percentile, 3rd Percentile and a 2nd Percentile that would mean, 7th Percentile = 93% of people scored higher than me, / 3rd percentile = 97% of people scored higher and / 2nd percentile = 98% of people scored better than me. I have a follow up appointment June 2nd so will mention this to clarify.

The tests carried out by the Memory Clinics, usually have a figure of 30. My late DH originally had a score of 17 or 18, out of 30, but this eventually decreased to nothing.
