Do we need first aiders at event

We are a local community group hoping to hold an event in the local park.
What is the requirement for having first aiders at the event?

I would think you need to ask your local council what their criteria is for holding and event in a public place , you will need insurance and there might be other restrictions/requirements.

Are you doing bungee jumping or flower arranging?

Your public liability insurance may well insist on first aid provision.

First event is a duck race, but there will be other events during the year which might include flower arranging or bungee jumping.
So is it insurers that decide? We are just setting up so don't have insurance yet so that can be a conversation we can have with them.

You need to talk to your Local Authority - they will require you to carry out a Risk Assessment and may put restrictions on you selling food, drinks. You will need Public Liability insurance.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
