Post Office Platinum Mastercard

My advice is don't apply for a Post Office Mastercard. My recent experience with their inability to set up a Direct Debit has been appalling and resulted in a deluge of ill informed letters warning me of late payment which was entirely due to their error.
Even worse is when you try contact them as its not run by the Post Office but the Bank of Ireland and so far I have spoken to Dublin, Kilkenny, Armagh and Bristol-where next I wonder.
I have made a formal complaint with them to resolve the matter but am told it could take up to 4 -8 weeks for a result.I could write a book.
The question is how much authority does the UK Financial Ombudsman have over an Irish bank.Shades of Iceland.
My advice is avoid this card.
Go for the Halifax Clarity card everytime for travel.

    The word is Jurisdiction (edit: or authority!). :)

    The card is provided by Bank of Ireland (UK) PLC, so normal rules apply with regard to the FOS.

    I had a Post Office credit card (a few years ago) and they weren't the best.
    Customer service based in Ireland wasn't an issue tbh.

    My advice is it's always best to have 2 or 3 cards when travelling. PO Mastercard is one of the few that offer unloaded foreign purchases so it's worth it for that. The online system is rubbish, though.

    I used to get alot of good repeat customer BT offers, though not so many recently. (I don't need them anyway.) The few times I called them, I found them great on the phone.

    I never use DD - more trouble than they are worth. Your experience supports my view! (Dives for cover as people pile in saying how great they are...)

    I think the rule is that with DDs you must wait for it to say on a statement that the payment will be taken by DD before you can rely on it happening. Dunno really.

    Enough authority. They are regulated in the UK by UK regulatory bodies.

    Of course that's great for cash too. But as I say best to have both. Having criticised the PO Mastercard online system, with Clarity I seem forever blocked so don't have access at all.
