Where can I open a joint bank account online?

Hi,

Me and my partner want to open a joint bank account for bills/shared expenses, but because he works funny shifts, it would be easier for us to set it up online.

We both have our own current accounts with Halifax. I recently opened a new current account with Halifax with the intention of adding him to that account, making it joint. But, when he applied to join, it said we would have to make an appointment at the bank.

Is there a bank that would let us complete the whole process online?

Thanks

Was that recently, as I thought they now let you 'joint-ify' accounts via online banking?

    Have you tried Santander 123?

See if he can add you to his Halifax account.

Lots of banks have processes for on-line account opening, but if he does not appear on the lists used for identity checks then they are likely to ask him to come into a branch.

I opened a joint account online with Halifax this week (well, I opened a normal account then changed it to a joint account). I even did a switch from another joint bank account.

Otherwise you can go with Santander. If it will be used mostly for your bills then the 123 account might be a better option.

(or get both. Halifax for the £5 reward and Santander for the cashback)

Hi I've just switched to first direct online banking, fantastic service. The switch was painless all sorted in 7 days, direct debits transferred and wages paid in, now just waiting for switch incentive. Opened joint account fully online with a couple of phonecalls. Hope this helps.

    Sorry forgot to post earlier.
We received our switching bonus just two weeks after our first wage was paid in.
Thank you MSE and first direct.

    Love saving money X
