Credit Card Eligibility Calculator

Options
I used the Credit Card Eligibility Calculator to look for a new cashback credit card as my capital one card has stopped doing cashback. It did say that it won't affect your credit score. I have had a new search entered on my credit file, by HDD-price comparison-Barclaycard (two entries on my file) on the same day I used this eligibility calculator. I didn't click on any of the results so what went wrong, anyone else had the same problem/issue

Nothing. They're not credit searches, they're quotation/ID/soft/unrecorded searches and as such are not seen by anyone else so have no impact whatsoever.

It's all explained in the T&Cs/FAQ on the eligibility checker page, but you're not alone in not reading (and/or understanding) them.

I did read them thank you, but "they will appear in a separate 'other searches' section of your credit file – not in the 'credit searches' section" - both of them appeared in the credit searches section !!

You are very light in detail, including which credit reference agency you use and what your concerns are about searches.

It maybe that different CRAs display information in different ways. I use Noddle and all searches appear together.

The point remains the same though. They aren't seen by other people. I entered my car insurance details on some price comparison websites last year and landed with about 15 of these soft searches. It made absolutely no practical difference.

I use equifax and I expected to see these searches in a different place to where the other searches would appear. I received an alert from equifax that I had a change to my file. This is my first post and probably my last. I read the T&C of the eligibility checker and it stated these would be separate. I thought this forum would be the place to ask the question but I now just feel as if I'm stupid for not knowing that just because they appear in the same place as my other searches these don't count. At least I now know equifax sends me a notification on things I don't need to worry about so I can ignore most of the aderts from now on. It's been an experience and a lesson learnt !!!

I know what the eligibility calculator is for and how it works thanks. My query was about the fact the search appeared on my credit report the same place as other searches that I have had not separate as indicated in the T & C

I don't know how it works on Equifax but on Experian the searches are broken into two sections - searches which affect your score, and searches with no impact.

On Equifax is here just one section, or does it have another section? If there isn't another section I would guess they all get put in together, it doesn't mean they are seen by anyone searching your file, and if they are they shouldn't be seen as anything other than the soft search that they are. They really won't have an impact on your file, even checking your credit file will produce a soft search, it doesn't mean you will get penalised for it.

    Hope that helps :)

I used it, told me I had 0% chance of getting an Amex card. I applied anyway (my credit history is good) and 2 days later I had the card delivered.

It appears under "table 2 - other searches" on Equifax. If it's showing under table 1 it's an error and Equifax will most likely correct it.
All that glitters is not gold.
  • I think you need to concern the expert person who has a lot knowledge about it. So, he/she will be help you out from this problem.
