LA has no record of my deposit and has not protected it!

Hi all,
Just need a bit of advice. We are currently in a private rental agreement. We signed up with a LA originally over three years ago and paid them the fees and deposit.
After that we dealt mainly with the LL and rent was paid directly to him.
We are looking to move house now and it turns out the LA has no record of the deposit being paid and it certainly hasnt been protected.
What is the best course of action to make sure I get the full deposit back and do I need to contact the DPS?
Thanks
MM

It may be that the LL has protected it.

No the landlord has no idea what happened to the deposit once it was paid to the LA.
He is asking me to find the date of when it was paid.0 -

The date will be on your receipt. It's someone else's fault.0 -
Surely you have some record of the payment of deposit, receipt etc.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Assuming you have a receipt, or your tenancy agreement states a deposit was paid, then you have proof of payment and it is up to the landlord to
a) return it when you leave (less justifiable deductions) and
b) pay a penalty for non-registration if you choose to pursue him for this
If you have no proof of payment, of course, then.......

If you don't have a receipt then do you have, or can you get, a bank statement with the amount on? If you paid by cheque you can get a copy of the cheque from the bank (for a fee).0

Well, get back to your friend then and ask them where it is.0
