Vinci - shall I just pay it?

Hi everyone, just hoping someone could advise me. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and was asked quite urgently to go down to the hospital to spend some time on the monitor due to the baby not moving. Realised I had zero change for their car park and to be honest it really wasn't a priority so I just went up to the ward. Return to my car and I have a ticket which I wasn't too shocked by. They want £20 or £8 if paid in 14 days. I believe it's a ticket from Vinci. For the sake of £8 shall I just pay up immediately? My dad seems to think they won't bother enforcing but I've never had a ticket before and I'm wary.
Thank you for your time.

complain to PALS or the admins at the hospital and demand a cancellation asap due to the circumstances, especially as the EA2010 may well apply

much as I agree with REDX , how long were you in the hospital , and what are the charges per hr , or for the time you were there ?

A figure of £8, is probably close to the charge for a long stay on the carpark , and as you did not buy a ticket they have no method of calculating the time you were there , so charge you the max for the day + £2.50 for DVLA charges + postage and paperwork.

if this system was used in more car parks instead of a default £100 , I would be happy
  • I was there roughly 3 hours, possibly a little over. They just had to do a heart trace and monitor babies movements for a while and did bloods etc. Looking on the hospital website the charge for 2-3 hrs would have been £4.00 and then from 3-7 hours it would be £6.50 so they're not asking for a wildly disproportionate amount. My gut feeling is just pay the reduced fee more for the peace of mind but I was wondering what others thought.

yes in this case I think the hospital are being sensible in telling Vinci not to penalize customers , and only to get back lost income

the government made suggestions to hospitals last yr , and it looks like your hospital is abiding by there suggestions.

until this happens in more hospitals the normal rate is £70-85

in your case I suggest you pay the £8

I agree, this is more like the way it should be, as opposed to the £100 charges they usually seek

I would pay too, because that is what was needed at the time so a fair result really

Do you really need the stress? In your position I think I'd just pay it.

At last a sensible arrangement between a landowner and a ppc, I would certainly pay up.

Indeed. Whilst there may be legal arguments as to why the charge is not payable, there are plenty of reasons for encouraging an operation like this as an example of how it can be done.

Worth using as an example of a more acceptable practice on the governments feedback survey.
