Damaged floorboard help

Options
I've got damage to a floorboard about 12 inches out from the wall. something heavy was dropped on it whilst work was being done. It's a bit splintered and caved in. Is it possible to saw out the damaged part and patch it up or will the whole width have to be replaced ? I was thinking of using a jig-saw to remove the damaged section. Am I crazy? My o/h is O.K. at diy so long as I can cope with the tension of work in progress .

  • Just cut it back to the nearest joists and put some noggins in to attach a new piece to - You may need to cut the bottom of the tongue off the new bit to fit it in, use a craft knife.

Should be straightforward (Oh BTW Have a feel around underneath for cables and pipes first.

Thanks. I was going to ask if one of those wood/metal detectors would pick up on gas pipes (its near the gas boiler) under the depth of a floorboard?
I'm not sure what a noggin is, is it like a peg? I expect o/h will know. I'm anticipating that it could be tricky extracting the end out from under the skirting area. Hopefully it will be attempted this w/e and I'll let you know how it goes.
