Signing Contract - Both Buyers?

Hi there,

We have been sent our buyer's contract for our house purchase from our conveyancer with an instruction to sign and return asap.

The contract only contains a line for a single signature, however I am purchasing the house with my wife, who is also named on the contract. Would it be expected that we both sign in the single space?

We would of course usually direct this sort of question to our conveyancer however we are hoping to post it back on Saturday morning to speed up the process and their office is now closed...! So we would greatly apprecate any advice on here :j

    Yes, you should both sign. Does not matter too much exactly where, one below the other or side by side.

    I forget, is a witness required on purchase contract? If so, make sure the witness sees you both sign and then signs him/herself.

    Do not date the contract - your conveyancer will do this when you are ready to exchange.

    edit: just checked. no witness rqd on standard Conditions of Sale 5th edition.
