Lying mortgage advisor...

Our buyer has been waiting for his offer for three weeks (survey done on 24th April - all fine).
Been chasing the MA at Lloyds Bank who kept promising it would be there shortly.... I wanted to exchange today, but still no offer, so our buyer visited the branch and confronted the MA, who told him it was waiting for 'someone' at Head Office to approve it. He sat down and told the MA he was not leaving the branch until he spoke to the 'someone' at Head Office.
The MA then apologised and said he had made that up and it was him who had to offer the mortgage, and he had not got round to it because he was busy....
My buyer has not surprisingly thrown a wobbly, and has now made a formal complaint. The mortgage has been offered and a copy of the offer will be faxed to the solicitor on Monday. They then have to email the buyer the mortgage deed to sign, which he will print off, sign, and return by special delivery on Monday, so the solicitor gets it Tuesday......when I have been told we will be able to exchange.....Fingers crossed!
The moral of this is....
If you have not got your mortgage offer within a week of the survey (and they are not waiting for any other docs) shout and scream until you get it.....
Use a LOCAL solicitor- not one of these online solicitors 200 miles away to save a couple of quid.... our solicitor is local and we can call in and sign/drop off docs on the same day....
The EA we have used has been worth every penny of their 1%fee. I am sorry, but there is no way an online payment upfront property seller would have kept chasing and liaising the way our EA has.....

20 plus years as a mortgage adviser for Halifax (have now retired), and I have pretty much seen it all....:D

Sorry but I disagree, "Local" solicitors are usually more expensive, and you can save money by shopping around nationally. I live in Wokingham and have used solicitors in Liverpool, Northampton and Manchester, there have been no problems and the only document I have not been able to sign, scan and send is the contract. You get good and bad solicitors in every town and city but with a scanner and computer there is no need to ever meet the solicitor who is potentially representing you.0
