Accident at work - help!

Hi all, I'm posting on behalf of my wife who recently had an accident at work (hence the title) and apologies in advance for the length of it. Not the first recently, neither due to her fault, several months ago she suffered burns (pretty bad) as she was not provided with the correct uniform for the job, but this one has her a bit pee'd off to the point of going for a claim against them.

She works in catering in a commercial service environment for a large (bank) company, within one of their main buildings in the canteen/restaurant and someone had dropped/left a food item on the floor of the catering area which she slipped on and went down hard as she was carrying foods and utensils in both hands (no free hands to break the fall).

Result is that she has been hurt very badly, and hasn't slept properly since as she tosses and turns all night trying to find a comfortable position, even on medication (it may seem selfish, but I also do this in response to her, as in being awake with her trying to find a comfortable close position).

A & E and doctors reports are there and still going on, as is prescribed medication.

Her manager continued on her phone call after being informed of the accident, no first aider was called (although they existed) and she was hauled into a chair without checking if she had back or neck pain or numbness. This to me is nuts!

Suppose what I'm asking for is help in the next step, avoiding ambulance chasers...

Does anyone have any advice or any good reports on some of the 'claims' companies out there?

Many thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give.

245 views and no response ...........

Perhaps it is the 'C' words to blame........claim and compensation........guaranteed (usually) to generate incoming flak to those who mention it!

If the OP's partner has suffered and has lost work because of an injury at work, she may be entitled to claim and she would be well within her right to do so.

It would be unwise however to comment on the validity of any claim without knowing the full details of the accident.

I think its more down to the OP asking for recommendations which really isn't going to happen on this board and if they are then they should not be trusted

The op's spouse has 2 claims she could bring.

Claim 1 for injuries suffered as a result of incorrect PPE being issued.

Claim 2 for failing to deal with a slip hazard.

The mere fact that her manager ignored a report of an accident as she considered her phonecall to be of more importance just goes to show just how little contempt the management has for the staff.

I work in a care home and the carers head straight to the cleaning cupboard for a mop and bucket if any food/drink gets spilled on to the floor.

dickydonkin - er, thanks for that, I think.

Takeaway_Addict - again thanks for that! But are you defaming/slandering me? Why should I not be trusted for asking for assistance on what is, I assume, a trusted forum?

And thank you patman99 for that, a non troll response.

In essence, neither of us is looking to make cash woohoo out of this but the environment is not on. My wife is being injured and suddenly they have a new 'clean-up process'.

So dickydonkin, it's not all about the 'C' you have concentrated on.

Takeaway_Addict - your one click away from a report post due to your comment, as this is seriously effecting a family.

Sorry if this seems angry, but again tonight I have went downstairs to allow my wife to sleep, I only ask for advice not crtisism from no mark troll posters.

    Kind regards

Obviously I can't speak for takeawayaddict but I really think you have misinterpreted his/her post.

I think what s/he was saying is that this Board does not generally include recommendations for particular firms although there is the occasional post in which the poster attempts to promote their own services which is frowned upon and which posts are usually swiftly removed (hence the not to be trusted comment).

I don't think s/he he was saying anything negative about you or your wife at all.

    You misread what I put.

This board tends not to do recommendations and if someone does recommend you a solicitor then it is wise not to trust the recommendation as what is to stop the person being from a claims company trying to drum up business. Plus you have no way of checking the recommendation is authentic.

Apology accepted when you provide it.

Surely that is better than someone being injured and nothing changed?

Has your wife had any loss of earnings over this? Is she off work? Covered by sick pay?

Had the whole of their cash in his care.

  • These claim companys are all no win no fee, just read the fine print.

I have used them twice (different companys) both for being off work for 3 months.

You can PM me if you wish for a discussion on how I went about it.

    Good luck

Was an accident form filled in for either incident?
