Settle an argument

if you would

my girlfriend is moving in a couple months. the new estate agents are messing around a little bit in terms of moving in date, which she is trying to nail down more securely. she is panicking a little as she signed to a leaving date from her flat on the 22nd june. the new place tennant leaves on the 26th and they want 4 days to fix a coouple (very very) simple things and paint something. her new flat has been since sold.

she seems to think that she will have to be out of her place on 22nd and arrange somewhere to store her stuff and sleep for a little while. i think she has more rights than that, despite what she has signed. who is right?

The place that has sold, is that the one she lives in now or the place she's moving into?

thats wher she lives now. she says she has signed something with current estate agent agreeing to 22nd as that is wat she was orig told by new landlord. flat had not been sold when she signed it

If she signed something for the 22nd, technically she does not have to leave then - that's just the date when the owner may go to court to get possession. If she stays an extra week, they won't have time to get a possession order before she leaves.

However, if she signed it then, morally, she should leave then.

i agree, however i did advise her to inform them as soon as she knows the ammended dates as well and offer a bit of rent for a week or something.

she just has it in her head she will be scrabbling around trying to store her stuff etc as i say. i just dont see that happening at all

Can't she just put stuff in storage and stay with someone for a week?

Or tell the LL that she can't leave and see if she can persuade them to give her to money to cover the costs for leaving. I think this is morally dubious though, since she signed for the 22nd.

Why did she accept the later date for the new flat?

She should speak to the ll and ask whether they'd mind her changing the leaving date. That would solve the problem wouldn't it?
